Multiply with Monmouthshire County Council

Multiply is an SPF-funded project designed to increase understanding and confidence in numeracy and maths for adults aged 19+. Our Multiply courses are completely FREE and are fully resourced and equipped for all participants. We are currently running the following interventions and courses throughout Monmouthshire:

Budget-Friendly Cooking with Matt

  • ‘Cooking with Matt’ is a course designed to help improve confidence in number and measure through budget-friendly cookery workshops. All equipment and ingredients are provided and participants get to take away a freshly prepared meal for four each week, absolutely free.

Budgeting

  • Our budgeting courses are designed to help with the current cost-of-living crisis by supporting adults to build their confidence with key numeracy life skills. Participants may choose to attend a full 7-week course or one-off workshops depending on the skills they wish to gain or focus on. From creating a budget and being shopping savvy to travel and commuting and making affordable home improvements, our budgeting courses hold something for everyone!

Counting on Success: Maths Made Easy at Home

  • ‘Counting on Success’ is a course designed to empower parents, grandparents and carers in boosting maths learning at home. We provide inspiration for fun and accessible maths activities, games and stories to use at home and to nurture a positive attitude towards maths. From Foundation Phase through to GCSE, we offer an overview of the maths curriculum to deepen adults’ understanding to effectively help their child with maths learning at home. Participants can engage in either a school or community venue.

Meaningful Maths: Understanding Your Child’s Journey

  • Currently on offer in schools across Monmouthshire is our ‘Meaningful Maths: Understanding Your Child’s Journey in Year One’ 6-week course. From number and calculating to shape and measure, we offer an opportunity to see how children learn maths in school, whilst developing parents’ own understanding of key numeracy and maths skills, building confidence to help children with maths work at home through activities, games and stories.

Tunes and Tales: Bringing Maths to Life in the Early Years

  • Through songs, stories and play, our ‘Tunes and Tales’ sessions aim to build a love of learning and empower inquisitive minds around maths in the early years, setting a foundation for their mathematical journey ahead. The 6-week course is completely free and will be held in venues in the community throughout Monmouthshire and provides a space for parents, grandparents and carers to explore maths with their child and build confidence and inspiration for further activities at home.

GCSE Resit

  • We are offering free one-to-one revision sessions for adults who are resitting GCSE maths. These sessions will be tailored to the individual’s needs and can be offered both in person and online. We can help to boost grades and develop confidence and a better understanding of GCSE maths, enabling adults to achieve their full potential.

GCSE courses

  • For adults aiming to gain a formal qualification in maths, we are offering free 36-week GCSE courses at both foundation and intermediate level. Whether people are looking to improve their grades or attain qualifications they may have missed earlier in life, Multiply can support these ambitions. Currently, this course is being offered to those able to reach venues in Abergavenny or Caldicot.

Entry Level Maths

  • For adults looking to upskill themselves in maths or work towards gaining formal qualifications, our 10-week ‘Entry Level Maths’ course is a great place to start, building confidence and understanding of key maths skills.
